What an AI assistant can do in SEOBetter: the MCP tools

Once connected over MCP (see "How do I connect an AI assistant to SEOBetter"), an assistant has 40 tools (up to 50 with WooCommerce, bulk generation and the Keyword Research add-on): 40 on every Pro and lifetime licence, plus 5 product tools when WooCommerce is active, 3 bulk tools on Agency and lifetime licences, and 2 keyword tools with Keyword Research on Pro+, Agency and lifetime licences. A bot that runs on its own connects the same way with a bot key (see "How do I connect a Grok bot"). Each tool runs the same SEOBetter code as the matching screen in wp-admin, so results are identical to doing it yourself.

Start here

  • get-site-context: plan, enabled features, Search Console status, rate limits and every option the writing tools accept: content types, word counts with the reason for each, tones, citation styles, research categories, languages, countries, your brand voices and your WordPress categories
  • get-site-todo: what needs doing on the site, with post ids: low scoring posts, stale posts, posts without internal links, easy wins from Search Console, overlapping posts and products without a description. Each line names the tool that fixes it.

Write an article

  • research-topic: run SEOBetter topic research for a niche or prompt
  • estimate-article: see the cost and allowance use before generating
  • suggest-article-settings: a recommended content type, word count and tone for a keyword, each with a one-line reason. No AI call and no cost.
  • start-article: start a generation job for a keyword with every option on the Generate screen (content type, word count, tone, audience, research category, country, language, brand voice and the rest); returns a job id
  • continue-article: run the next steps of the job until it is done
  • get-article: the finished article with headline options, GEO score, checks and suggested fixes
  • apply-fix: apply one suggested fix and re-score
  • optimise-article: apply every applicable fix in one pass

Preview, publish and manage posts

  • save-article: save the finished job as a draft, publish it, or schedule it for a date
  • preview-post: read the draft's rendered content and get a preview link before publishing
  • list-posts, get-post, update-post: find and change posts, including status, title, content, slug and categories
  • trash-post: move a post to the trash (the assistant should confirm with you first)
  • list-categories: category names and ids

Improve existing posts

  • score-post: run the SEOBetter analysis on an existing post
  • list-post-fixes: score a saved post and list the fixes SEOBetter suggests for it. Read only.
  • apply-post-fix: apply one of those fixes, save the post and re-score it
  • optimise-post: apply every fix that fits in one pass, saved as one revision
  • set-focus-keyword: set the SEOBetter focus keyword on a post, synced to your SEO plugin

WordPress keeps the previous version of each post as a revision. A bot key needs Publish mode to change a published post. Each fix, optimise or refresh counts towards the key's daily post edit limit (50 by default); setting a focus keyword does not. See "How do I let my bot improve my old posts?".

Brand voice

  • list-brand-voices, get-brand-voice: the voices on your site
  • save-brand-voice: create or update a voice. The assistant reads your own posts, plus any text you paste into the chat, and writes the voice from them. See "How do I create a brand voice from my own writing?".
  • delete-brand-voice: remove a voice. Articles already written keep their text.

Your plan sets how many voices you can have: 1 on Pro, 3 on Pro+, unlimited on Agency.

Writing settings

  • get-generation-settings, update-generation-settings: the writing rules from Settings, General: real experience, own products first, blocked brands, the author box, and the default tone and word count. A bot key needs Publish mode to change them, because they apply to the whole site.

Maintain the blog

  • find-stale-posts: posts whose search performance is decaying
  • refresh-post: run the content refresher on a post
  • get-link-suggestions, insert-links, dismiss-link-suggestion: internal linking
  • find-cannibalisation: posts competing for the same keywords
  • run-site-audit: the site-wide technical and GEO audit
  • check-citations, tech-audit-post, eeat-audit-post: per-post checks

Site traffic and keyword research

  • get-post-queries: Google Search Console queries for a post, including striking-distance ones
  • get-site-traffic: Search Console summary for the whole site over the last 28 days: totals, top posts, winners and losers, and easy wins (seen often, rarely clicked). Needs Search Console connected in SEOBetter settings.
  • research-keywords (Pro+, Agency, lifetime): keywords around a seed, ranked by Opportunity. Uses your DataForSEO account.
  • cluster-keywords (Pro+, Agency, lifetime): group up to 100 keywords into topic clusters ready to write.

WooCommerce products (when WooCommerce is active)

  • list-products, get-product: your products with name, link, price, descriptions, categories and stock status
  • score-product: the SEOBetter analysis on a product page
  • update-product: change a product's name, slug, description or short description. Price, stock and status cannot be changed.
  • optimise-product: run the optimiser on a product description; products have no WordPress revisions, so the previous description is kept in the product's _seobetter_previous_content field (one copy, replaced on each run)

Products are live content, so a bot key needs Publish mode to change them, and each change counts as a post edit.

Bulk generation (Agency and lifetime)

  • start-bulk: queue up to 100 articles in one batch, as the Bulk screen does
  • bulk-status: how far the batch has got
  • bulk-process: write the next item, only needed when your site cannot run the batch in the background

Each article in a batch counts against a bot key's daily article limit, and a batch bigger than what is left today is refused.

Routines for bots

The AI bot access page has three ready-made routines with copy buttons: Improve my old posts, Write today's post and Weekly health check. Paste one into your bot's instructions and it knows which tools to use, in what order, and when to stop.

What the assistant cannot do

Connecting Google Search Console, licence and AI provider settings, uploading media and setting featured images stay in wp-admin. Your plan's monthly allowances and site limits apply exactly as they do on the screens.
